Taking a Ride in a Biplane

Minot s Air Museum has seen an increase in visitors over the past couple years A lot of that has to do with a new addition and some new aircraft within the facility But recently there was some interest in a couple items OUTSIDE the museum s walls Dan Erdmann has more Dan Erdmann KX News Bob Berwick and Warren Pietsch have been friends for years Some men their age would probably choose a hobby like Golf but not these two What brings them together is their love of the sky and a passion for antique aircrafts Recently they wanted to share that passion with a few lucky passengers Bob Berwick Pilot Warren and I were gainfully employed as airline pilots believe or not up until last April when our airline decided to call it quits So I m just out spreading the love giving people rides visiting friends and having a good time Warren Pietsch Pilot Kind of a relaxing weekend for us and a time to enjoy some of these old airplanes and give some folks some rides Dan Erdmann KX News As you can see they re not your typical aircraft Pietsch spent the last 12 years restoring this 1931 Walko biplane And Berwick pilots a 1926 Travel Air biplane which happens to be the oldest of that model still in the air today Although they may look antique they definitely don t fly like it Warren Pietsch Pilot They re pretty fun It s better than any ticket ride at Disney World in my opinion Bob Berwick Pilot It s the best It s sort of like flying a motorcycle And I ve never taken up anybody that didn t love it Dan Erdmann KX News Of course they fly for the fun of it but in this case they also had other goals in mind Warren Pietsch Pilot It s working out well It s good for the museum to have some activity around and good for us to have a place to hang out Bob Berwick Pilot It s an experience that not many people get to experience anymore I mean this is the real deal from the 1920 s It s an oldie but a goodie Dan Erdmann KX News And it s something that won t go out of style Berwick and Pietsch seem to get a natural high from being up high And they re two men who truly aren t ashamed to say they PREFER their heads in the clouds Dan Erdmann KX News
